About Dr. Rosenfeld: Dr. Rosenfeld is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and has had special training in microsurgery. He has been performing tubal reversal surgery since 1980, having performed over 2000 surgeries using the microsurgery technique. His goal is to optimize your chances of conceiving through surgery.
The Surgery: The tubes are repaired using a multilayer technique followed by a chromotubation to ensure the tubes are open. The surgery is performed through a mini laparotomy incision of about 3 inches located at the hair line. The incision is closed using a plastic surgery technique and suture, resulting in minimal scaring. Patients go home the day of surgery.
The surgery is performed in a new state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center – First Street Surgical Center. The On-Q pain pump, a revolutionary pump, is included in the surgery. This method of local pain control enables patients to recover comfortably without the need for oral pain medications that cause bothersome side effects such as congestion, constipation, and drowsiness.
Appointment Documents: You will need to arrive 15 minutes early to fill out the patient registration form, which can also be filled out ahead of time. A copy of your Operative Report from your tubal ligation surgery is very helpful. Copies of lab results, x-rays &/or hormone studies are also useful (Medical Records Release Form). Referrals from other physicians are welcome.
Your Surgery Appointments: If you are coming from out of town you will need to plan to have an office visit the day prior to surgery. This visit will last approximately 2 hours. You will meet Dr. Rosenfeld, and go over the surgery with him. You will have a pelvic ultrasound performed in the office. You will be free after that appointment. The following morning you will arrive at First Street Surgical Center at 6 am. You will meet the anesthesiologist and have your blood drawn. General aenesthesia is used for the surgery. The surgery lasts less than two hours. You will be discharged in the afternoon and can return to the hotel. Most patients are able to travel home the day after their surgery. You may return to the office before traveling if you would like to be evaluated by the nursing staff. What to expect from surgery: As a result of the surgery, the tubes will grow back together. That is why many physicians will give you a money-back guarantee. In most cases, it does not matter if your tubal ligation was done with clamps, tying, or burning. The length of time since your tubal ligation does not affect your tubes ability to grow back together. Your individual success rate is affected by your age, how regular your periods are, and your partner’s sperm count.
